Dieticians and Wizardry…

Went to the dietician… I sit down and she shows me a plate.

“Do you eat like this?”

I look down and in shock I nod. I really do.

“Are your plates big?”

Bit of a personal question but I assure her that they are the same size as you would expect.

She then moves on to what you are meant to eat. And then to what I do eat. By the time I’m finished talking she is shaking her head.

“I know my portion sizes can be larger than…”

She interrupts me. “You aren’t eating enough.”

Of all the things I was expecting that was not one of them.

“Huh?” Is my eloquent answer.

“You are short 3 portions of fruit and veg AND at least one in dairy.”

“Huh?” I think I have got the needle stuck.

“You need to change that and eat more!”

“Huh?” Yep, definitely looking gormless now.

She just stares.

“I’m not eating enough?” I pose.

“Exactly!” she cries. “You must come back in two months to make sure you are.”

“Huh?” I think my learning disability is showing.

“We’ll write and let you know!” Yep, it’s showing. She is now talking slow and loud.

I am ushered out the door clutching the papers I need to reform my lifestyle. As I leave I turn to her.

“I need to eat more?”

She nods happily.

I cross the waiting room amid dubious looks from those waiting. Hell, I’m dubious as well. I’m really over-weight and a size twenty and her advice is to eat more.

So I am now feeling a little queasy after adding fruit and veg to my lunch. I’m so full. Can this be right?

I’m giving it two weeks…

  1. Every time I try to lose weight, I hear the same thing. Eat more. Consuming too little calories throws your body into starvation mode, causing the weight to stay on and sometimes even leads to gaining more. Tcha! That might be true, but eat more?? That just doesn’t seem right. I rebel against that idea every time and low and behold…I lose no weight.

    1. Well, I’m going to give it a go. Right at the moment though I feel completely full! Don’t think I’ve ever eaten so much fruit and veg. 🙂

    I was a size 22 and over the past many months by making small changes to my diet part of which was eating more of the right things I am not a size 18 in pants (IN PANTS) – it’s been a long time since I have been in size 18 pants man… at least 2-3 years (basically since I broke my ankle and packed on a tonne of weight). It has taken me 9 months to lose 10kgs, which might seem like a long time, but the habits are ingrained now and I believe there is much more chance of me keeping the weight off doing it the way I have. I have kept the weight off and that has never happened before. I have a long way still to go, but the turtle wins the race right? 🙂
    I am very interested to hear how you go with the changes and if they work for you. 🙂

    1. So far they seem fine… I’m not feeling hunger which is good. 🙂 And congratulations on the weight loss – that is so great.

      1. Thanks. It was a slow road, but I am glad I did it slow. Every other time I have lost weight the habits haven’t stuck and it has come back with a vengeance hahaha.
